Orange smashburger
King's Day, Formula 1, the Olympic Games—there's always a good excuse for an Orange smash burger made with minced beef, but during the FIFA World Cup this recipe by @vurigekolen is an absolute must-try. It's super easy to make too, so let's get started!
Preparing the Orange smash burgers
Prepare your BBQ for direct heat and place a plancha or skillet on the grill grate. Let it get nice and hot.
Mix the gochujang, BBQ rub, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, soy sauce and the crumbled rusks into the minced beef. Divide the mixture into 4 equal balls of approximately 125 grams each and refrigerate until ready to cook. Slice the buns in half and lightly toast them on the plancha until lightly crisp.
Place the meat balls on the hot plancha and firmly smash them flat with a burger press or spatula. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the bottom is nicely caramelized and crispy. Flip the burgers, place a slice of cheddar on each patty and cook for another 1–2 minutes until the cheese has melted. Generously spread the bottom half of each carrot burger bun with sweet pepper mayonnaise.
Stack two smash burgers on each bun. Finish with a little more sweet pepper mayonnaise and the fresh slaw.
